A wonderfully warm evening welcomed WordPress aficionados and more to the first “real” gathering of the Philly ‘burbs WordPress meetup. With the comfortable, yet spacious Ryan’s Pub playing host, a crowd gathered to enjoy good food, cold drinks and friendly conversation about WordPress. The attendees were a pleasant mix of repeat visitors and new faces — it was great to see so many people from that initial Kick-Off event.
There were three presentations on the night; two 5-minute overviews followed by a more detailed introduction that served as the basis for an open discussion:
- What’s new in WordPress 3.4? saw Liam Dempsey doing his best to overcome the passing ambulance to share some of the highlights of the latest version of WordPress.
- Mary Motz, of ProVirtual Solutions, covered the basics of two reliable plugins — WP-DBManager and WordPress Backup — for backing up database content, themes, plugins and uploads.
- Dave Konopka provided the keynote address, talking through the many considerations of WordPress: Scalability and Performance.
The Philly ‘burbs WordPress Meetup blends content for the mix of designers, developers and users who make up the group. The next meetup is being scheduled for August, with details to follow on the group’s meetup page.
